About the Logo

The inspiration for the new Drogheda.ie brand was taken from Drogheda’s oldest symbol – the star and crescent. The earliest known town charter is that granted to Drogheda-in-Meath by Walter de lacy in 1194. The original star and crescent appeared on the town emblem taken from Richard The Lionheart's coat of arms. The emblem adopted back then is still used by the Drogheda Borough Council today.

The treatment of the star and crescent in the new logo also lends itself to resembling the letter “D”. It may also be seen as the sail of a boat, possibly sailing along the River Boyne. The logo can be interpreted in different ways by different people.

The logo is vibrant, modern and welcoming. The colour scheme is claret and blue which many Drogheda United football fans will identify with and the font used is friendly and approachable.

The strapline beneath the logo is “Star of the East Coast”. This line helps to position Drogheda geographically on the East Coast Corridor and using the word “Star” has direct relevance to the logo of the star and crescent above and many positive connotations.
