Gilbert O'Sullivan one of the biggest recording stars of the seventies comes to Drogheda on St Patrick's Day for a show in the TLT Theatre
In November 1970 , the Waterford born singer , made his first Top of the Pops appearance singing " Nothing Rhymed" the first of his seven top ten hits . His pudding basin haircut, short trousers and flat cap made him look like a schoolboy from the 1960's and he became hugely popular. . He followed up with "We Will" and " No Matter How I Try " both of which charted before he had a huge hit IN 1972 with "Alone Again Naturally" which topped the Billboard US charts for six weeks and went to number 3 in the UK .
IN 1973 He topped the British charts with "Claire" which also went to number two in the USA and he also had a huge hit with "Get Down" . He had several hit albums but following a major row with his manager Gordon Mills and his recording label MAM which ended up with Gilbert being awarded 7 million by the courts , the hits dried up .
