Loughcrew Oldcastle MeathLoughcrew Estate provides a fantastic day out for all the family in the heart of the Boyne Valley amid the rolling hills of Meath. The historic grounds & gardens are perfect for the History buffs and tour groups.
Just some of the sites you will come across on the 2km looped walk are the Medieval Motte, the magnificent Yew Walk, and the foundations of the old Long House dating back to the early 1600's. Make sure to read the interesting information boards and learn a little bit about the history of Loughcrew.
St. Oliver Plunkett's Family Church ruins can be found on the Estate. It is said that the Plunkett family resided at Loughcrew and this is where the well-known Saint was born — Saint Oliver's head may be in Drogheda but his Spirit is in Loughcrew!
The kids can be tired out on Loughcrew Adventure Centre — conquer heights on the climbing wall or fly through the air on the zipline, ideal for kids 7 years+. For the smaller ones, the Fairy Trail is the most magical few hours you can spend together. Can you find all the Fairy homes?!
