Have a Farmyard Adventure
Take a short drive into the historic Boyne Valley countryside for a day on the farm. There’s not one, but two open farms close by to choose from; Newgrange Open Farm offers a truly marvellous insight into farming life, allowing children a fun, up-close and hands-on experience with the animals. They also have indoor and outdoor play facilities and picnic areas. While nearby Red Mountain Open Farm boasts the most extensive indoor facilities of all open farms in Ireland, so you can enjoy your visit whatever the weather. Discover their play areas, picnic facilities, animal enclosures, pedal tractors, country farm walks and rides. All you need is a picnic for a great family day out!

Soak up the epic history of the Battle of the Boyne
Explore the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre located at Oldbridge House featuring detailed displays and historical battle reenactments. It’s easy to get there, hop on the Local Link bus (Route 163), or if you’re feeling energetic why not walk the 4km from the heart of Drogheda along the scenic Boyne Greenway. The Visitors Centre brings one of the most important battles in Irish history to life through narration, lasers and models. And that’s not all, during the summer months you can step back in time with costumed Living History events and guided battle-site walks on various weekends. Surrounded by acres of parkland, it’s a great place to spend a day exploring with the kids. Why not have a leisurely picnic or relax with a treat in the tea pavilion while taking in views of the beautiful walled garden.
