Slow Sessions Start Date Saturday 20 June 2026 End Date Droichead Arts Centre, Stockwell Street, Drogheda, Co. Louth +353 41 983 3946 VISIT WEBSITE Droichead are delighted to announce their Slow Sessions for 2026 with Brendan McCreanor. Capacity is limited so early booking is advised. These sessions are for players of any instrument and at any level. A selection of easy and well known session tunes will be played slowly so that people in the early stages of their playing, or those coming back to playing music, have the opportunity to play together in a friendly, supportive and informal context. More experienced players who wish to refine their techniques and extend their repertoire at a slower pace are also very welcome. Brendan McCreanor is a multi-instrumentalist and an accomplished uilleann piper. He is also a founding member of the traditional/folk band Kern, a fully qualified musician in healthcare and is a member of Baile an Salsa, whose music fuses salsa and Trad elements. Brendan is a passionate advocate of traditional Irish music and has significant experience teaching children and adults in a range of instruments including Uilleann pipes, whistles, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo and flute. Brendan holds degrees in Applied Music and Creative Multimedia. Participants will learn a selection of popular session tunes including a couple of local ones from Co. Louth and well known tunes from across the country. Through engagement with the slow session, participants will develop their repertoire to include jigs, reels, slides, polkas and hornpipes, and will learn about the timing of the different styles and a little about the history and origins of the tunes. Essentially, the objective of the slow sessions is to enable participants to learn new skills, develop ability and enjoy the immersive experience of the seisiún in a relaxed manner. Music will be provided in advance, by email, and the session will be live in their venue. Each session is 90 mins-2 hours long with a 5 min break midway. - Magdalene Tower | Drogheda.ie
Magdalene Tower Rope Walk, Magdalene Street, Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland VISIT WEBSITE Magdalene Tower is all that now remains of the once important Dominican Friary. It is the belfry tower of the friary which Lucas de Netterville, then Archbishop of Armagh, founded in about 1224. The tower itself is of 14th-century construction. It was here that O'Neill and the other Ulster chiefs acknowledged their submission to Richard II, King of England in 1367. In 1412 its Abbot, Father Bennett, was the peacemaker in the conflict between the people on either side of the river Boyne leading to the uniting of the town. The tower was located near to the now demolished St. Sunday's Gate and was located just inside the northern walls of the town. How to find us Previous Item Next Item

- Beaulieu House & Gardens | Drogheda.ie
Beaulieu House & Gardens Beaulieu House and Garden, Beaulieu, County Louth, Ireland +353 41 9838557 beaulieu.house.garden@gmail.com VISIT WEBSITE Beaulieu House is located on the east coast, near Drogheda and overlooks the River Boyne. It was built by Sir Henry Titchbourne, Marshal of the Army in Ireland, and Governor of Drogheda, on the restoration of Charles II, King of England. It is believed to be the finest example of Irish domestic architecture to survive from the Restoration. It was built between 1660 and 1666 and was probably designed by a Dutch architect. The present owner is a direct descendant of Sir Henry. The family church in the grounds has a mid 15th-century cadaver tombstone set against one of its walls. Only about a dozen such tombstones survive in Ireland. Inside the impressive house the walls are adorned with excellent family portraits, as well as a superior collection of the works of many famous Irish artists of the early part of the 20th-century. The gardens of Beaulieu overlook the Boyne and are at their best during the months of June & July. They are a member of the Boyne Valley Garden Trail.
